Structure Fire in the Village

At 12:55 on 4/12/23 CC 911 dispatched the Chatham Taskforce to what was originally reported as a house fire at 35 Railroad Ave in the Village of Chatham, NY. On arrival of Ghent Car 1 he confirmed a working fire at 17 Thomas St. and established command. The initial TF assignment brought Chatham Ladder 58-51 and Engines 58-22 and 42. TF mutual aid were Ghent Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 Engines 22-43 and 22-22, East Chatham, Valatie Fire Department Ladder 55-52, Niverville Fire Department Inc. engine 45-13 and Greenport FAST.

The fire started on the exterior of the structure and extended into the attic space. Crews made a quick initial interior attack and vented the attic allowing for a quick stop, saving the structure.

Our community volunteers do this kind of work for neighbors frequently. We couldn’t do this without the help of our mutual aid partners.

No injuries reported. Great save today!!
