At 19:21 on Thursday 1/30/25 Columbia County NY 911 received 911 calls from residents and passersby’s in the Village of Chatham, NY reporting a train car derailment with a fire located under a car. The incident took place between CSX rail mile post 177 and 176, which is Main St and Locust St in the village. Chatham Fire with Ghent Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 under automatic mutual aid was dispatched. Cars 1,2,3 & 9 along with Engines 58-42 and 22-43 responded. A minor fire was located at the Locust St switch and extinguished by first arriving units. The Main St and Austerlitz St crossings were blocked until approximately 22:30.
